After a protracted fight with liver cancer, veteran Kannada actor Mysore Srikantayya Umesh, popularly known as MS Umesh, died on Sunday, November 30, at the age of 80. After being ill for a while, the well-known actor was recently hospitalized to Kidwai Hospital, where he passed away.
Actors, politicians, and fans have all sent tributes in response to his passing, which has caused a wave of grief throughout the Kannada cinema industry. Over the course of his more than 60-year career, Umesh starred in more than 400 movies. He continued to be one of Sandalwood’s most diverse performers, known for his distinctive comedic timing, poignant performances, and unforgettable character portrayals.
Over his career, he appeared on television alongside a number of legends, such as Dr. Rajkumar, Vishnuvardhan, Ambareesh, and Anant Nag. Audiences continue to love his parts in movies like Guru Shishyaru, Golmaal Radhakrishna, Katha Sangama, Nagara Hole, Kaamana Billu, Apoorva Sangama, and Shruthi Seridaaga. Shivaraj Thangadgi, Minister for Kannada and Culture and Welfare of Backward Classes, expressed profound sorrow at the actor’s passing.
Umesh’s health worsened after he tripped and fell at home, resulting in injuries that needed emergency care, according to a Daijiworld story. His more serious underlying ailment was found by medical professionals after he was hurried to the hospital. But the honors that followed the announcement of his passing continued to center on his decades-long work. Umesh, who was born on April 24, 1945, to AL Srikantayya and Nanjamma, started participating in theater and stage productions at an early age.
His love of acting brought him numerous accolades, such as the City Corporation Award in 1997 and the Karnataka Nataka Academy Award in 1994. Bannada Ghante, his autobiography, earned the Vishweshwarayya Pratishthana Award and was praised.
