Vijay Deverakonda clarifies ED summons; says he only promoted legal gaming app

After appearing before the Enforcement Directorate, actor Vijay Deverakonda clarified he had no links to illegal betting and only endorsed the legal gaming platform A23

Actor Vijay Deverakonda appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday at the Basheerbagh office in Hyderabad, following a summons related to the alleged promotion of betting applications. The investigation is part of a wider probe into online platforms with suspected links to illegal betting.

Addressing the media after his appearance, Vijay clarified that his involvement was limited to the promotion of a legal gaming app. “I was summoned because my name came up in connection with a betting app case. In India, there are two different categories, betting apps and gaming apps,” he said.

The actor firmly stated that he only endorsed A23, a gaming app that is registered and compliant with legal and taxation norms. “I clearly explained that I promoted a gaming app called A23. There is no connection between betting apps and gaming apps. Gaming apps are legal in several states. They are registered, have GST, taxes, and necessary approvals,” he added.

Vijay also informed that he submitted all required financial documentation to the ED, including bank statements and his agreement with the app’s company. He pointed out that the app he promoted is not even accessible in Telangana.

With his statement, Vijay Deverakonda has attempted to draw a clear line between legal digital gaming and online betting, reaffirming that his professional association remained within lawful boundaries.
