Actor-turned-politician Vijay formally stepped into the electoral arena on Monday, filing his nomination from the Perambur constituency in Chennai for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. Leading his party, Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), Vijay addressed a massive gathering of supporters shortly after submitting his papers, setting the tone for his campaign.
Standing atop an open campaign vehicle, Vijay appealed to voters to place their trust in his party and support its whistle symbol in the polls scheduled for April 23. Positioning himself as a candidate driven by public service, he said his decision to enter politics was rooted in a desire to give back to the people.
In a fiery address, Vijay sharply criticised the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), alleging that the state’s current challenges stem from its leadership. Taking aim at Chief Minister M. K. Stalin, he questioned governance on issues such as safety, employment, and public welfare.
Framing the election as a crucial moment for the future, Vijay urged voters to choose what he described as people-centric leadership over what he called an “anti-people government.” He also encouraged citizens to accept any inducements but ultimately vote for change, reinforcing his campaign’s central message of a “whistle revolution.”
Marking his transition from cinema to active politics, Vijay’s campaign blends populist messaging with strong criticism of the current administration, as he seeks to establish TVK as a new political force in the state.
