Vijender Singh offers film role to Rajpal Yadav amid cheque bounce case and jail term

Actor Rajpal Yadav is currently lodged in Tihar Jail as legal proceedings continue in a long-running cheque bounce case. His bail hearing in the Delhi High Court was recently adjourned to Monday, even as voices of support from the film industry continue to grow louder.

Adding to actors such as Sonu Sood, Gumeet Choudhary and Ajay Devgn, boxer-turned-actor Vijender Singh has now stepped forward in solidarity. Taking to X, Vijender praised Rajpal’s contribution to Indian cinema and invited him to collaborate on his upcoming film, written and directed by Sanju Saini. In his message, he described Rajpal as a true talent who has brought smiles to audiences through countless memorable roles and said he wished to support him during this challenging phase.

The legal troubles trace back to 2010, when Rajpal secured a ₹5 crore loan from Murali Projects Pvt Ltd to finance his directorial venture, Ata Pata Laapata. The film failed at the box office, triggering repayment issues.

In April 2018, a magisterial court convicted Rajpal and his wife under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act after seven cheques issued to the complainant bounced. He was sentenced to six months of simple imprisonment, a verdict later upheld by a sessions court in 2019. As the case moves forward, industry colleagues continue to publicly back the actor.
