The Bhatt family is mourning the loss of Varsha Bhatt, mother of filmmaker Vikram Bhatt and wife of acclaimed cinematographer Pravin Bhatt. She passed away on Saturday at the age of 85 following a prolonged illness. According to reports, her last rites were performed at the Versova crematorium at 2:00 PM in the presence of close family members.
An obituary notice announcing her demise and funeral has been circulating on social media, while the family is yet to issue an official statement to the press. Varsha Bhatt’s husband, Pravin Bhatt, has been behind the camera for some of Bollywood’s most memorable films including Sadak (1991), Agneepath (1990), Aashiqui (1990), Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke (1993), and Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin (1991).
Her son, Vikram Bhatt, entered the film industry at the young age of 14 as an assistant to Mukul Anand. Over the years, he established himself as a successful director with films like Ghulam starring Aamir Khan and Rani Mukerji.
Known for his contribution to the horror genre, Vikram delivered hits such as 1920, Shaapit, and Haunted – 3D, the latter being India’s first stereoscopic 3D horror film. His Raaz and 1920 franchises further cemented his place in Bollywood’s horror space.Vikram Bhatt is currently working on his upcoming project, Haunted: Ghosts of the Past, starring Mimoh Chakraborty, which is slated to release on November 21, 2025.
