Stand-up comedian and actor Vir Das is once again facing online backlash after his controversial ‘Two Indias’ monologue was brought up in the Lok Sabha. The performance resurfaced during a speech by TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee, triggering renewed attention and sharp reactions on social media.
Soon after the parliamentary reference, Das revealed that he had received an abusive direct message containing explicit language and a death threat. Sharing a screenshot on X, he chose satire over outrage. In a poetic and sharply worded post, the comedian mocked the recurring pattern of hostility that follows every time the clip trends again.
Expressing disbelief that his monologue was cited in Parliament, Das earlier wrote, “In PARLIAMENT? Really? This happened last night,” alongside a video of the moment. The renewed spotlight has revived conversations around the act, which first went viral in 2021 and drew polarising responses.
At the time, multiple complaints were filed against him across cities, accusing him of portraying India negatively. An FIR was registered in Mumbai, and complaints were submitted to both Mumbai and Delhi Police, demanding action. The latest development has once again stirred debate on free speech, satire and the boundaries of artistic expression in India, placing Das back at the centre of a familiar controversy.
