Vivek Agnihotri clarifies Taimur reference in The Bengal Files trailer

Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri has confirmed that the name ‘Taimur’ in The Bengal Files trailer has no connection to Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan’s son, but is instead rooted in historical context.

After The Tashkent Files and The Kashmir Files, National Award-winning director Vivek Agnihotri is now ready to release the final part of his trilogy, The Bengal Files. The film, which focuses on the 1946 Great Calcutta Killings, the Noakhali riots and their aftermath, unveiled its haunting trailer earlier this week. However, one detail that quickly drew attention was the appearance of a young boy named ‘Taimur’ at the very beginning of the clip.

Many speculated if this was a reference to Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan’s son Taimur Ali Khan. Addressing the buzz, Agnihotri recently clarified on The Raunac Show that the name has no such link. “A lot of people name their children Taimur. This isn’t the first time someone has used it,” he explained. He went on to share how the inspiration came from his visit to Samarkand during the shoot of The Tashkent Files, where he learned about the conqueror Taimur Lang.

Agnihotri elaborated on the historical figure, noting his violent invasions in Delhi and beyond. “He massacred one lakh people in one night… for them he was a hero, but for us he is not. Of course nobody should name their child Taimur,” the filmmaker stated.

Starring Darshan Kumar, Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher, Pallavi Joshi, Saswata Chatterjee, Simrat Kaur, and Namashi Chakraborty, The Bengal Files releases in theatres on September 5.
