Volvo Cars said the company will sell only battery-operated cars by 2030. The plan comes after the demand for electric vehicles surged.
The Swedish car manufacturing company will launch a new collection of its electric cars and its second battery-only model later on March 2. The company said its electric cars will be available for sale online only.
The company’s Chief Executive Officer Hakan Samuelsson said, “We choose to invest in the future — electric and online. We are fully focused on becoming a leader in the fast-growing premium electric segment.”
Like Volvo, car manufacturers Jaguar Land Rover, General Motors Co., and Volkswagen AG have also announced plans to electrify their cars.
Volvo expects half of its cars to be fully electric by 2025, and the other half to be hybrids, including so-called mild hybrids that don’t feature a plug.
