Advance reservations for YRF’s next spy thriller War 2 opened in the international market more than ten days before its release. The YRF Spy Universe movie began ticket pre-sales in the US first in an attempt to capitalize on the popularity of its two main actors, Jr. NTR and Hrithik Roshan. But it hasn’t started out the way Yash Raj Films had hoped.
The Telugu version appears to have accelerated somewhat, while the Hindi version is trailing considerably behind, nearly a day after the US launched pre-sales for War 2. The majority of the large theaters showing the Hindi version have not sold a single ticket for the Wednesday premieres, according to a look at some of the biggest ticketing websites, such as Movie For Tickets.
Trade sources claim that YRF is offering paid previews of War 2 (Hindi) on 900 screens in the US. According to Telugu 360, only 1600 tickets have been sold at all 900 venues as of Sunday morning, which means that many of the halls remain empty. The lack of paid previews and the Wednesday premiere culture in Hindi cinema, where even moviegoers prefer to see the film on the first day or first weekend, may be the main causes of this.
In the south, premiere shows are very popular, especially in Tamil and Telugu cinema, where they do well for movies with significant actors. Naturally, relying on Jr. NTR’s star power, the Telugu version is performing significantly better. According to sources, the War 2 (Telugu) shows are already showing a respectable level of occupancy, and the Wednesday debut of this edition has brought in over $100,000 in the US. Trade analysts point out that this is also less than anticipated.
For War 2’s scope of release in the US to be justified, its Telugu pre-sales alone must surpass $1 million. Ayan Mukerji’s War 2 is a follow-up to the 2019 smash hit War. Hrithik returns to the role of superspy Kabir in the movie, and Jr. NTR plays another Indian spy who is at odds with him. Kiara Advani also appears in the movie. War 2, a game set in the YRF Spy Universe, will be available on August 14 during the weekend of Independence Day.
