India has the cheapest data packages in the world and Indians enjoy high speed data at a very minimal rate. This allows them to view web series, movies, music videos and more in High Definition mode (HD). The factors contribute to their more than necessary use of data. The UK Royal Society scientists have learnt that HD generates about eight times more emissions when compared with SD and they have urged the streaming services to minimise their resolution since this emission contribution ranges from 1.4% to 5.9% globally.
