Wayne Rooney reignites the Lionel Messi vs Cristiano Ronaldo debate after Eden Hazard claim

The days pass, yet the heated argument remains: who is the best, Messi or Ronaldo? In the middle of it all, Eden Hazard claims that he is a better ‘pure footballer’ than Cristiano Ronaldo.

This put the football world in chaos, with numerous people trolling and agreeing with the Belgian star. It was now the time for football icon Wayne Rooney, a former striker for Manchester United, to make his decision.

When asked about the comments made by former Real Madrid and Chelsea winger Eden Hazard, Rooney defended the Belgian in a recent interview with BRFootball, saying that Messi is a more complete player than Ronaldo because he plays in more areas of the pitch.

Rooney said, “So for instance, Cristiano Ronaldo, his mindset is goals. He doesn’t care about anything else, it’s goals, that’s all he wants.” He added, “Whereas you look at Messi, he wants to play a bit more. I suppose that’s what Hazard is saying, he liked to play – exactly like myself.”

Rooney also added that he could relate to Hazard’s opinions, saying that they had similar perspectives on the game.

The former United player added that if he had been more ‘selfish’ and not wanted to ‘enjoy the game’, he may have been a more deadly striker.
