We need to talk about Green Lantern having Lord Farquaad hair in the new ‘Superman’ teaser

The new teaser trailer for James Gunn’s upcoming Superman movie is nothing short of incredible. It nails the emotional depth needed to make the new Superman feel genuine and heartfelt, rather than just redoing something that already worked. However, there’s one thing in particular that’s raising eyebrows.

And that’s Green Lantern’s hairstyle.

Nathan Fillion, who’s playing Green Lantern’s Guy Gardner, sports a hairstyle in the trailer that’s reminiscent of Lord Farquaad’s from Shrek—think Spock meets an ’80s comic book character. It’s definitely a bold choice and one that’s likely to spark a lot of internet chatter. While this particular bowl cut is similar to the one Guy Gardner wore in some of his ’80s comic appearances, it’s not exactly a universally loved look. Some fans might even feel that this hairdo could’ve been left out of the final cut.

But honestly, I’m all for it. Superheroes often feel too polished or modern these days, and that can make them a bit predictable. Guy Gardner has always stood out because of his attitude and reactions to those around him, not just his appearance. That trademark bowl cut is part of his charm, and it would’ve been a shame to lose it unnecessarily.

Gardner’s character is known for being confrontational, and the trailer shows him marching toward Superman, ready to take a swing at the Man of Steel. This fits perfectly with his role as someone who’s always a thorn in the side of anyone, whether they’re a hero or villain.

Based on what we’ve seen in the trailer, I’m excited to see where Gunn’s team takes this story. So far, it feels much more grounded and genuine compared to the Snyderverse, which, for me, often felt a bit too distant and cold. Gunn’s Superman already seems to have more emotional honesty, even from just this brief teaser.

As for the portrayal of Clark Kent, I’m still a fan of Christopher Reeve’s classic version, but David Corenswet’s take seems promising. In one scene, Clark awkwardly navigates through a crowd, despite being much taller than everyone else, with a subtle and relatable awkwardness that reminds me of Reeve’s version of Clark Kent. It’s these small but significant details that hint at a more nuanced, human take on the character.

All in all, there’s enough in this teaser to suggest that Gunn and his team are on the right track with Superman. And as for Gardner’s bowl cut, while it might not become the latest hair trend, it’s definitely adding to the unique flavor of the movie.
