Weight loss tool developed by scientists which locks jaw, sparks outrage

Restricting a person’s jaw from opening wide enough to intake solids the world’s first weight loss device with locking bolts have been developed by scientists.

Limiting the wearer to a liquid diet but allowing free speech and not restricting breathing, to develop such a magnetic device, a team of researchers from the University of Otago, New Zealand and the United Kingdom came in a collaboration.

The lead researcher and provide-chancellor at the University of Otago health science’s Paul Brunton mentioned that the device enables allowing le to comply with a low-calorie diet for some time the main barrier for people for successful weight loss is compliance, he said in a statement.

Along with being motivated to continue with their weight loss journey, within 2 weeks an average of 6.36 kg was lost by the trial participants, as mentioned by the University. Although the device can be released by the user in case of an emergency along with repeatedly fitted and removed, the magnetic device is initially fitted by a dentist.

Meant to force people to go on a liquid diet, the announcement drew a massive backlash on social media as users stated the invention as a torture device. Although mentioning that to assist people who need to undergo surgery and who are unable to have the surgery until they have a weight loss, the device is not intended as a quick or a long term weight loss solution as mentioned by the University which issued this clarification in response to the outrage on social media.
