West Indies training camp halted after pacer Marquino Mindley tests positive for COVID-19

The 26-year-old Jamaican pacer, Marquino Mindley was tested positive before in his second test that forced the West Indies team to halt their ongoing training camp for their upcoming test cricket series.

West Indies Cricket said in a statement that “Following PCR tests administered on Friday 21 May for all members of the West Indies men’s red ball training camp being held in St Lucia, Jamaican fast bowler, Marquino Mindley turned out to be positive on his second COVID-19 test.

Mindley is said to be asymptomatic and is self-isolating and will be returning to the ground after he returns with two negative test results. All the players and staff members were tested and they all turned negative but the training camp got called off for the weekend.

Cricket West Indies is working with the regional government and CARPHA to encourage and assist all squad members to get vaccinated. Till now, 43 members of the playing squad and coaching squad have been vaccinated out of which 13 were vaccinated this week only and more will be vaccinated in the coming week.

The West Indies training camp is being held in a bio-secure environment ahead of their ICC World Test Championship two-match series against South Africa that is scheduled for June 10.
