What We Know About the In Time Fortnite Mode

Fortnite has once again pushed the boundaries of its versatility, this time by announcing a surprising crossover with the 2011 sci-fi film In Time, starring Justin Timberlake. The game mode, developed using the Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN), is part of a deal between Snoop Dogg’s Death Row Games and New Regency, the studio behind In Time and other films like Fight Club and Birdman.

What We Know About the In Time Fortnite Mode

The new mode is set to debut on Thursday, December 12, and will be available for free across all platforms, including PC and mobile. According to developers, it aims to deliver an “unparalleled AAA gaming experience” by utilizing the dynamic capabilities of UEFN.

While the specifics of gameplay haven’t been revealed, fans are speculating it will incorporate themes from the movie, such as time-based mechanics, survival strategies, and futuristic aesthetics.

The choice of In Time is raising eyebrows. While it was a novel concept back in 2011, the movie received lackluster reviews, holding a 36% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes. However, the inclusion in Fortnite could be an attempt to reintroduce the film to younger audiences in a new format. Additionally, this collaboration signals a broader plan by New Regency to adapt more of its film library for gaming audiences.

What’s Next for Fortnite and New Regency?

The In Time crossover may just be the beginning. With films like The Revenant, Fight Club, and Birdman in New Regency’s catalog, the possibilities for future adaptations are intriguing. Death Row Games’ CEO, Cardell Broadus, hinted at creating game modes that resonate emotionally and culturally, promising more authentic and engaging experiences.

This move follows other groundbreaking additions to Fortnite, such as the Counter-Strike-inspired Ballistic mode, which highlights the Unreal Engine’s adaptability. With UEFN at the heart of these innovations, Fortnite is expanding from a battle royale game to a platform capable of hosting diverse gaming experiences.

Fans won’t have to wait long to explore the In Time mode. Starting Friday, December 13, players can log in and experience the crossover firsthand. Whether this new addition will resonate with Fortnite’s audience remains to be seen, but it’s clear that Epic Games is committed to pushing the boundaries of what Fortnite can be.

What’s your take—will In Time make a splash, or is this an odd choice for Fortnite’s ever-expanding universe?
