Reese Witherspoon is bringing Legally Blonde fans back to Elle Woods’ world with a brand-new prequel series! Titled Elle, the show will explore Elle’s high school years, long before her Harvard Law days.
During an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Witherspoon revealed that watching Jenna Ortega’s Wednesday inspired the idea of exploring Elle’s teenage years. “I wanted to see who she was before college, before law school, and I started having all these ideas,” she shared.
Witherspoon is executive producing the series through her company, Hello Sunshine. The show is being developed by Amazon MGM Studios, with Gossip Girl creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage writing the script.
According to the official logline, Elle will dive into “the life experiences that shaped her into the iconic young woman we came to know and love in the first Legally Blonde film.”
While the cast has not been finalized, Witherspoon teased that auditions have been incredible. “I just love them all so much, and they’re doing such a good job,” she said, admitting that choosing the right actress to play young Elle has been a tough decision.
Filming is set to begin in March 2025, and while an exact release date hasn’t been announced, Elle is expected to premiere exclusively on Amazon Prime Video sometime this year.
