Demi Moore had enough of people mispronouncing her name and decided to set the record straight in 2017, laying down the law about how her name should be said. This moment recently resurfaced following her big win at the Golden Globe Awards.
During her appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the 62-year-old actress and Fallon were discussing their shared connection to the name “Demi.” Fallon, 50, mentioned that he knew a few Demis, to which Moore humorously responded, “Yes, and I know Demi also.” Fallon, curious, asked if she was referring to Demi Lovato, to which Moore responded with a playful tease about feeling left out of the singer’s inner circle.
Moore explained that both she and Lovato, who is from Texas, have families that pronounce their names the same, but each individually pronounces it a little differently. She clarified, “It works better with our last names,” adding that “Deh-mee Lovato” and “Duh-mee Moore” each sound just right with their respective surnames. This little detail left fans surprised, with many commenting on social media that they had never realized the names were pronounced differently.
The moment is particularly memorable now, as Moore recently won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical for her role in The Substance, marking her first major industry award after more than four decades in show business. In her emotional acceptance speech, Moore recalled how a producer once dismissed her as a “popcorn actress,” telling her she would never be worthy of holding such an award.
Her daughters, Rumer, Scout, and Tallulah, watched from home and posted heartfelt reactions on social media. They also joined Moore for the after-party, snapping photos of her with the prestigious Golden Globe in hand.
