When Millie Bobby Brown Addressed Her Constant Accent Changes

Millie Bobby Brown has never been a stranger to people commenting on her accent, especially after years of playing Eleven, an American teenager, in Stranger Things. Over time, her way of speaking has naturally shifted, and fans have been quick to notice. Last year, she had a humorous response to critics pointing out how her accent seemed to change during interviews.

Growing up in England before making a name for herself in Hollywood, Brown’s accent gradually took on an American influence. But instead of this going unnoticed, fans have constantly brought it up—especially during her press appearances for Damsel, her Netflix film. People were quick to point out how her accent seemed to fluctuate in different interviews.

Brown addressed the chatter in a lighthearted way while speaking with TikToker Max Balegde. She explained that, as an actor, she naturally picks up the speech patterns of those around her. “I’m an actor. I grew up in the public eye. I grew up in America,” she said, emphasizing that she doesn’t intentionally switch accents. She also reassured people that she’s simply doing her best.

Balegde defended her, stating, “She’s Millie Bobby Brown, and she can speak however she wants.”

But accent debates weren’t the only thing Brown faced before the end of 2023. Some social media users started commenting on how she looked older than her actual age in a photo she posted on Instagram. On January 1, she hit back at the criticism with a straightforward response: “Women grow!! Not sorry about it.”

Despite online chatter—whether it’s about her voice, looks, or anything else—Brown’s career remains strong. She’s set to reprise her role in the final season of Stranger Things, which is slated for release this year.
