Shikhar Dhawan, India’s batting hero, has been embroiled in a controversy following his recent visit to Varanasi and the photos he shared on Instagram. Dhawan is regarded as one of the greatest limited-overs openers in the country, and his fans adore him for his upbeat demeanor.
Dhawan shared a couple of pictures from his latest trip to Varanasi on Instagram on Friday. Varanasi is one of India’s most prominent holy cities, located on the banks of the Ganges River in Uttar Pradesh. One of the must-do activities in the holy city is taking a boat trip, which Dhawan did as well. Dhawan gave fans a small glimpse of his trip to Varanasi after the boat ride.
He shared a pair of photos of himself riding in the boat on social media. In the cruise, the India batsman could also be seen feeding the birds with his paws, as he wrote, “Happiness is feeding birds.”
After posting the images, Shikhar Dhawan didn’t waste much time in courting controversy. Because of the avian flu, also known as bird flu, his post became the talk of the nation, albeit for all the wrong reasons. Varanasi’s District Magistrate (DM) has taken note of the situation and has promised to take action against the city’s boatmen. He also mentioned that no action against the tourist will be taken.
“So, these boatmen are being identified and tourists generally are not aware of such things. However, it was made clear by the police and the administration to the boatmen that they should not allow the tourists on their boat to feed the birds. Whosoever flouted these rules will be served notice and they will be asked as to why their license should not be cancelled… No action will be taken against the tourists,” DM Kaushal Raj Sharma stated.
