When Soha Ali Khan mistook Tiger Pataudi’s historic 1987 Olympic torch run for just a morning jog

Actor Soha Ali Khan of Bollywood recently thought back on a special childhood memory that she shared with her late father, cricketer Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi. She posted a nostalgic Instagram Story with a vintage picture of herself running with him in the 1987 Olympic torch relay, which she had naively assumed was just his typical morning jog.

On Tuesday, Soha shared on her Instagram stories that her father’s iconic Olympic torch run in 1987. “I remember wanting to accompany Abba on what I thought was his usual jog, and he said yes. #Olympictorch 1987.”

Originating in the 1936 Berlin Olympics, the Olympic torch run, also called the torch relay, is a ceremonial custom. The Olympic flame, which represents friendship, peace, and world unity, is transported from Olympia, Greece, to the city hosting the Games. Pataudi’s involvement in this esteemed occasion demonstrated his influence outside of cricket.

One of India’s most renowned cricket players, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, sometimes affectionately known as Tiger Pataudi, was just 21 years old when he was appointed captain of the national side. He was the son of the last Nawab of the Pataudi princely state, Iftikhar Ali Khan Pataudi. Tiger received the C.K. Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award in 2001.

Soha last appeared in the 2025 horror movie Chhorii 2. She is married to actor-director Kunal Kemmu. She played the eerie role of Daasi Maa, who was directed by Vishal Furia. Nushrratt Bharuccha played the lead role in the movie, which also included performances by Saurabh Goyal and Gashmeer Mahajan via April 11, it was released over-the-top (OTT) via Amazon Prime.
