Ask any Monster Hunter Wilds veteran, and they’ll tell you—upgrading your gear is the number one rule for survival. Unlike traditional RPGs, you won’t be leveling up your character. The only way to get stronger is by forging better weapons and armor at the blacksmith.
Of course, nothing in Monster Hunter comes for free. You’ll need both money and materials to craft upgrades, and one of the first key resources you’ll be hunting down is iron. Unlike monster parts, which you get from taking down beasts, iron doesn’t just fall into your lap—you’ll need to actively seek out mining spots. If you’re unsure where to look, here’s exactly where to find iron in Monster Hunter Wilds.
Where to find iron in Monster Hunter Wilds
Iron is one of the most common resources in the game, especially in the Windward Plains, the starting area of Monster Hunter Wilds. You’ll also find deposits in Scarlet Forest, another early location. Keep an eye out for big blue geodes on the ground—these are your iron mining spots. If you’re having trouble spotting them, your map will also mark them with a blue icon.
For an even easier way to locate iron deposits:
- Open your map
- Access the “Filter Icons” menu
- Turn off everything except for the Mining Outcrop icons
- Find an iron deposit, set a waypoint, and let your Seikret guide you there
The best part? You don’t need any special tools like a pickaxe to mine iron. Just walk up to a Mining Outcrop, press the interact button, and start collecting. Each deposit gives you up to three pieces of iron, so keep pressing the button until you’ve fully mined it.
With a steady supply of iron, you’ll be well on your way to crafting stronger weapons and armor—essential for taking on the tougher monsters lurking in the wilds. Now, get out there and start mining!
