Annie Altman, the sister of OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, has filed a lawsuit against him, accusing him of sexually abusing her for nine years, starting when she was just three years old. The lawsuit, which seeks $150,000 in damages, was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri. The legal action includes two charges: sexual assault and battery. In the lawsuit, Annie claims that her brother, who is nine years older than her, repeatedly abused her during those years.
According to Annie’s lawyer, Ryan Mahoney, Sam allegedly manipulated and emotionally harmed her, despite Annie being very young when the abuse began. This lawsuit marks the first time Annie has taken legal action against her brother. While she has spoken out about her allegations on social media in the past, this is the first formal legal step she has taken.
In the lawsuit, Annie discusses how the abuse has affected her life, including the mental, physical, and financial strain she believes resulted from the trauma. She has shared how these experiences have impacted her ability to form intimate relationships. In a post on Medium, she described how, in college and afterward, she experienced severe physical reactions, such as vomiting, during sexual encounters with men she trusted and loved.
Annie has also spoken publicly about her financial difficulties, which led her to engage in adult content work and prostitution to make ends meet. Additionally, she has worked as an artist and a podcaster. She first made her allegations public in 2021 through a post on X (formerly Twitter), writing, “I’m not four years old with a 13-year-old ‘brother’ climbing into my bed nonconsensually anymore.”
The Altman family has responded to these claims, denying the accusations and suggesting that Annie’s mental health issues may have influenced her statements. This legal action adds to the controversy surrounding Sam Altman, the CEO of the tech giant OpenAI, making the case particularly high-profile.
