Chris Brown has filed a lawsuit against Warner Bros. over allegations of sexual assault made in the docuseries Chris Brown: A History of Violence, which aired on Investigation Discovery. The renowned Under the Influence artist has accused Warner Bros. and the production company Ample LLC of libel and intentionally inflicting emotional distress by airing defamatory claims about him.
According to the lawsuit, Brown claims that the evidence presented in the docuseries is false and that the media prioritizes profit over truth. The legal filing, as reported by Variety, argues that the documentary, which aired on October 27, 2024, spread false information despite Brown’s legal team notifying Ample LLC and Warner Bros. in early October 2024 about the inaccuracies. The lawsuit states that the companies continued to promote the documentary, which allegedly violated basic journalistic principles.
Brown’s team further asserts that the accusations made by Jane Doe, one of the individuals featured in the documentary, have been repeatedly discredited. The suit describes Jane Doe as an “aggressor” and a “perpetrator of intimate partner violence” herself.
While the lawsuit acknowledges that Chris Brown has made mistakes in the past, it also highlights that he has publicly addressed these issues in his 2017 documentary Chris Brown: Welcome to My Life. The lawsuit also stresses that Brown has grown from those past experiences, and the recent docuseries unfairly tarnishes his reputation with misleading claims.
