Why no Champions League games are being played today

The league phase of the 2024/25 UEFA Champions League is reaching its climax this week, with plenty of drama expected as teams scramble for the remaining spots in the next round.

Here’s everything you need to know:

Round of 16 Spots: Only Liverpool and Barcelona have guaranteed progression so far, with Arsenal virtually assured. That leaves at least five places in the Round of 16 still up for grabs.

Knockout Playoff Fight: Teams finishing 9th-24th in the league phase will enter the knockout-playoff round, making every match critical for clubs still in contention.

Man City at Risk: Manchester City faces a potential shock elimination after their loss to PSG. Their fate hangs on their final match against Club Brugge.

New Matchday Format: All Matchday Eight games will be played on Wednesday, January 29, at the same time (9 p.m. CET) to ensure fairness.

Why no matches today?

The absence of games on Tuesday (January 28) is due to UEFA’s decision to stage all Matchday Eight fixtures simultaneously. This adjustment ensures no team gains an advantage by playing later and knowing other results beforehand.
