Cynthia Erivo has expressed a strong desire to play Storm in Marvel Studios’ upcoming X-Men reboot, calling the role her “dream role.” During an interview with the National Board of Review, she explained her fascination with Ororo Munroe, highlighting the character’s grandeur and the untapped depth of her storylines. Erivo believes there is much more to explore about Storm, particularly the inner turmoil and complexity that the character brings, which she feels hasn’t been fully showcased on screen yet.
Erivo’s comments are a direct nod to previous portrayals of Storm, with Halle Berry and Alexandra Shipp having taken on the role in earlier X-Men films. Erivo seems particularly excited about the potential for a deeper exploration of the character, imagining a version of Storm that delves into her emotional and psychological layers.
Marvel Studios is currently working on the X-Men reboot, with Michael Lesslie writing the script and the search for a director ongoing. Erivo’s comments come at a time when the future of the X-Men in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is taking shape.
In addition to her aspirations for the role of Storm, Erivo is set to return alongside Ariana Grande in the sequel to Wicked, titled Wicked: For Good, which is scheduled for release on November 21, 2025.
