Will Billy Bob Thorton’s ‘Landman’ get a second season?

If you’ve been hooked on Billy Bob Thornton’s Landman, you’re not alone! This intense Western drama from Paramount has captured viewers’ attention, and while a second season hasn’t been officially confirmed yet, there are plenty of promising signs that it’s on the way.

What is Landman about?

The series comes from Christian Wallace, the mind behind the Boomtown podcast, and is written by Taylor Sheridan, the powerhouse behind Yellowstone. Billy Bob Thornton takes on the role of Tommy Norris, a landman working for an independent oil rig. His job is far from easy—he’s constantly dealing with legal troubles, difficult working conditions, and plenty of personal drama.

When did Landman premiere?

The first season debuted on Paramount on January 12, 2025, and it didn’t take long for fans to start asking for more. While Paramount hasn’t officially renewed the show yet, the enthusiasm from the cast and crew suggests that a second season is highly likely.

Thornton himself hinted at what’s to come in a January 2025 interview with TheWrap, saying, “Tommy is determined to make this work, but at the same time, he’s terrified. He really doesn’t want to be in an executive role. And if there were a season 2—another little wink—he’s probably going to drag a lot of landmen along with him.” Sounds like he knows something we don’t!

Who else is in Landman?

The series boasts a star-studded cast, including Mad Men’s Jon Hamm as oil CEO Monty Miller and Demi Moore as his wife, Cami. Moore has already expressed excitement about returning to the role, telling Deadline at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival that she finds the world of Landman fascinating.

“It’s such an interesting setting—the boomtown of Fort Worth, Texas,” she said. “It’s a world we haven’t really explored on screen before, which is something Taylor [Sheridan] does so well. I play an oil tycoon’s wife—lots of fabulous clothes! But beyond that, the show digs into the deeper issues surrounding oil and petroleum from all perspectives… and of course, there’s plenty of juicy drama and family tension.”

When will Landman Season 2 begin filming?

There’s no official word yet, but Thornton previously told Entertainment Weekly that if the show gets a green light, cameras will likely start rolling in early 2025.

“If we do get a season 2, I think we’d probably start around February or March,” he shared. “But in this business, you never know. It all depends on how things shake out.”

So while we’re still waiting for confirmation, it looks like there’s a good chance Landman will be back for more high-stakes drama in the oil fields of Texas. Stay tuned
