Prince William is planning to make this year’s birthday extra special for his wife, Kate Middleton, as she celebrates turning 43 on January 9. This birthday carries even greater significance as it marks her first one since being declared cancer-free after nearly nine months of treatment in 2024. Given everything she has been through, William wants to ensure she feels truly cherished on her big day.
To prioritize spending the day with Kate and their children, the Prince of Wales has reportedly made a special request to King Charles, asking to be excused from attending former U.S. President Jimmy Carter’s funeral. Traditionally, the King and senior royals are expected to represent the monarchy at such high-profile events, so William’s absence is a notable decision.
According to sources, King Charles, who regularly attends government functions and state funerals, would have ideally preferred his heir to be present at the event. However, William’s commitment to celebrating Kate’s recovery and birthday took precedence.
Meanwhile, in William’s absence, Prince Edward will step in to represent the royal family at Carter’s funeral. Although Edward is currently 14th in line to the throne, he has often taken on diplomatic duties when senior royals are unavailable.
As for William and Kate, despite the challenges of the past year, they remain steadfast in their royal responsibilities. With King Charles’ ongoing battle with cancer, the Prince and Princess of Wales have increasingly stepped up to prepare for their future roles within the monarchy.
