Will the IPL 2021 season get cancelled as players test positive?

On Monday, after Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrior tested positive for COVID-19, the clash between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad is postponed.

As India registered 3,68,147 new coronavirus infections and 3,417 related deaths in the last 24 hours, the highest daily increase recorded in the country since the beginning of the pandemic many IPL fans are demanding to postpone or cancel the league this season.

Earlier, Delhi Capitals’ Axar Patel had also tested positive for Covid-19. Kolkata Knight Riders batsman Nitish Rana also tested positive, but he also returned a negative test before the start of the tournament. Few groundstaff members at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai had also returned positive tests, but all the 10 IPL matches went smoothly in Mumbai.

After seeing this type of situation, many cricket fans urged the cash-rich Indian Premier League to be cancelled or postponed. But IPL COO Hemang Amin has assured all players and support staff that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will ensure their smooth return at the end of the league.
