Wimbledon 2023: Rohan Bopanna-Matthew Ebden enter pre-quarters in men’s doubles competition

After winning their second-round match in straight sets on Monday, Indian tennis player Rohan Bopanna and his Australian partner Matthew Ebden advanced to the pre-quarterfinals of the men’s doubles tournament at Wimbledon.

Sixth-seeded Bopanna and Ebden defeated Jacob Fearnley and Johannus of Britain on Monday and advanced to the Round of 16 with a 7-5, 6-3 victory at No. 3 Court.

The 43-year-old Bopanna and the 35-year-old Ebden, who earlier this year won championships at the Indian Wells Open and the Qatar Open, got off to a slow start as they trailed 1-3 before getting a hang of things. The Indo-Australian duo quickly found its rhythm and rallied to tie the match at 4-4. The British duo made a quick comeback, but Bopnna and Ebden kept control of the game and won the first set.

The Indo-Australian duo got off to a fast start in the second set, racing to a 4-1 lead. Jacob Fearnley and Johannus Monday attempted to get back into the contest but the Indo-Australian duo snuffed off the challenge and advanced to the third round.

Bopanna and Ebden won 26 of 30 first serve points, outscored their opponents by a margin of 10 to 4 and capitalised three of seven break break points to take the match.
