On Sunday 13th June 2021, the World Bank announced a package of USD 60 million for under-privileged students who are not able to pursue online learning and education.

Faris Hadad-Zervos the country director of world bank for the region of Maldives, Nepal and Sri lanka said that, ” The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the critical importance of building back better and prioritizing human capital development.” He also mentioned that, ” improving access to quality higher students and acquiring the skills that are in demand with market labour to recover and strengthen its resilience is necessary.”

During the press release on Friday, World bank said that Nurturing Excellence in Higher Education program to build on Nepal’s pervious successful education projects supported result based financing. It also helped the Government of Nepal to align higher education sector with labour market needs, to boost collaborative research and entrepreneurship, and to access high quality education.

The COVID-19 pandemic has created a vast incentive and has expanded the online medium for hybrid learning which will help Nepal to scale across the country. “A key priority of the program is to promote the inclusion of disadvantaged students who have faced economic hardship during pandemic,” stated Mohan Aryal, task team leader at world bank.
