The teaser of Yash’s upcoming film Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown Ups has sparked controversy, with the Karnataka State Commission for Women (KSWC) stepping in and writing to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to seek “appropriate action.” The move comes after the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) lodged a complaint objecting to certain scenes in the promotional video.
Released on January 8 to coincide with Yash’s birthday, the teaser features the actor in an intimate moment inside a car, followed by intense action sequences. While the clip generated significant online buzz, it also drew criticism for what the complainants described as obscene and explicit content placed in the public domain without any age-related warning.
According to PTI, leaders of the women’s wing of AAP’s Karnataka unit met officials of the women’s commission and submitted a petition seeking the removal of the teaser. In a letter to the commission, AAP state secretary Usha Mohan claimed that the visuals degrade the dignity of women, insult Kannada culture, and could have an adverse impact on minors. The party urged authorities to intervene, ban the teaser, and ensure it is taken down from social media platforms.
Acting on the petition, the women’s commission has asked the CBFC to verify the complaint as per rules and submit an action-taken report. Directed by Geethu Mohandas, Toxic is co-written by Mohandas and Yash and features a large ensemble cast including Rukmini Vasanth, Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Tara Sutaria, Huma Qureshi, Akshay Oberoi and Sudev Nair.
