Zinedine Zidane tells the world why he left Real Madrid

Zinedine Zidane has accused Real Madrid president Florentino Perez of failing to respect him during his final season in charge, saying, “I’m going because I feel the club no longer has the faith in me that I require.”

Zidane has won three Champions League titles and two La Liga titles during his two stints at the Santiago Bernabeu, but he decided to resign after a trophy-less season.

“I’m leaving because I feel the club no longer has the faith in me I need and doesn’t offer me the support to build something in the medium or long term,” the Frenchman wrote in the letter published in the sports daily AS.

“I am a born winner and I was here to win trophies, but beyond this, there are human beings, emotions, life and I have the feeling that these things have not been valued, that it has not been understood that this is also how the dynamic of a great club is maintained.”

“But everything I built on a daily basis, what I brought to the relationship with the players… has been forgotten. I’m leaving, but I’m not jumping ship and I’m not tired of coaching.”

Zidane’s Real Madrid contract was slated to end in 2022, but he had frequently declined to clarify if he would still be at the club the following season.

He has a history of making unexpected announcements: as a player, he announced his retirement from international football in 2004 before returning for the 2006 World Cup, after which he retired for good, after being sent out for headbutting Marco Materazzi as France lost the World Cup.

Mauricio Pochettino, the manager of PSG, is at the top of Real Madrid’s list of contenders in their quest for a new manager. The Argentine has notified PSG of his wish to go, but it is unknown whether he is interested in the top post at the Bernabeu, with a return to Tottenham also being considered. Real are also rumored to be interested in outgoing Inter-manager Antonio Conte, while academy head coach Raul is also a target.

Zidane now takes another break from football although there has been talking of him either taking charge of the French national team or PSG. Where do you think Zidane will end up? Should he make a move to Premier League or move to France?
