Zomato appoints Akriti Chopra as chief people officer and co-founder

After company appointed Akshant Goyal as its newest CFO, in the run-up to its IPO, Chopra had taken over the role of people development at Zomato in the year 2020

On Wednesday IPO food aggregator Zomato informed its employees through internal memo that, Akriti Chopra is appointed as chief people officer and co-founder of the business. In the run-up to its IPO, when company appointed Akshant Goyal as CFO, by that time Chopra had taken over the role of people development in October 2020.

In an internal memo of employees Zomato’s co-founder and chief executive officer (CEO) Deepinder Goyal said that, “Akriti has been here (at Zomato) for almost a decade. She has an undying commitment to Zomato, and our well-being. She has been one of the strongest pillars of support for Zomato, as we faced multiple ups and downs through these years. She was mostly behind the scenes all these years, working hard and building an impeccable finance team. Congratulations Akriti for now officially being a founder at Zomato.”

Chopra, during her ten-year period with the food-tech major, has helped to build the company’s in-house legal, governance, risk, and compliance teams. She was appointed as CFO in November 2019. She has also been a part of global growth and international operations teams in the company.

By the end of April, Zomato filed its DRHP with SEBI and IPO of around Rs. 8,250 crore, with this the food-tech company said that it will issue fresh equity shares worth Rs. 7,500 crore.
