Officials announced on Monday that the one-man commission looking into singer Zubeen Garg’s death has extended the deadline for making testimony and submitting evidence until December 12. In relation to the November 3 event, the panel, led by Justice Soumitra Saikia, has started gathering evidence and taking statements.
According to Aroop Pathak, the commission’s member-secretary, the deadline has been extended from November 21. Pathak issued a notice on Friday stating that anyone who is aware of the facts and circumstances surrounding the aforementioned occurrence may submit their comments via a properly notarized affidavit till December 12 from 10.30 am to 4 pm on all days except Sundays.
“All persons, intending to furnish their statements before the Commission must also furnish a list of documents in support of the facts stated in the affidavit by them, on which they propose to rely upon along with the originals or true copies of such documents in their possession or control and shall also state the name/ and address/ from whom the remaining documents may be obtained,” said the notice.
The Assam government established a panel led by a sitting judge of the Gauhati High Court to look into the circumstances surrounding Zubeen Garg’s tragic death in Singapore on September 19. The commission will also determine if the occurrence was caused by or related to any outside causes, such as the potential for foul play, conspiracy, or illegal activity. On September 19, Garg passed away while swimming in the sea in Singapore.
