3 infiltrators encountered in Kashmir’s Kupwara area

On intervening Wednesday and Thursday night, three infiltrators were encountered in two separate operations conducted. At least three infiltrators are believed to have been killed near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara area, according to an Indian Army statement.

According to the Hindustan Times, one of the terrorist most probably slain in the Tangdhar area, and another two were murdered in Machhal. The operation is underway. The Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir police conducted the operation on the intervening night between August 28-29 into the general area of Tangdhar, Kupwara, in response to intelligence inputs about potential “infiltration bids”.

As per a tweet on X, the Army Srinagar-based Chinar Corps stated, “Based on intelligence inputs with respect to likely infiltration bids, a joint operation was launched by the Indian Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police on the intervening nights of August 28 and 29 in the general area of Machhal, Kupwara. Suspicious movement was observed in bad weather and was engaged with effective firing by troops; two terrorists are likely to have been neutralised.”

The tweet also added, “Based on intelligence inputs regarding likely infiltration bids, a joint anti-infiltration operation was launched by the Indian Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police on the intervening nights of August 28 and 29 in general area Tangdhar, Kupwara.”

Jammu and Kashmir police quoted, “During the search operation, contact was established with terrorists at about 11:45 pm on August 28, and an exchange of fire took place between terrorists and security forces near the Kheri Mohra area.”

At this point, a search operation is ongoing in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district after the exchange of fire among terrorists with security forces from August 28, officials said. The operation began Wednesday at 9:30 p.m. within the Kheri Mohra Lathi and Danthal neighbourhoods.
