Cristiano Ronaldo, who on Wednesday at the Laugardalsvollur in Reykjavik became the first male player to appear in 200 international matches, was in excellent form for Portugal and scored a late winner in a 1-0 win against Iceland in their UEFA Euro Qualifiers. With both teams failing to score, Ronaldo found the back of the net in the 89th minute to get three points for his side.
Iceland also fell to 10 men with 10 minutes remaining in regular time as Willum Willumsson was sent off for a second yellow card. During the game, Portugal’s captain missed multiple chances and was also booked for diving in the 83rd minute.
When Goncalo Inacio headed the ball down for him to score from close range in the 89th minute, the 38-year-old striker finally struck the back of the goal. Portugal had to wait for VAR to confirm Ronaldo’s goal after he converted the opportunity.
Ronaldo left a cameraman in splits during a post-match media interaction. The cameraman began closing in on Ronaldo’s face, to which the Al Nassr star said, “Not too close, eh! Too many wrinkles!”

Talking to UEFA’s official website after the match, Ronaldo said, “So happy. It’s that kind of moment that you never expect to do it, 200 caps. For me it’s an unbelievable achievement. Of course, to score the winning goal, it’s even more special.”
