Roman Reigns passes Hulk Hogan as the longest-reigning WrestleMania era champion

Roman Reigns is probably the finest wrestler in modern times, with the ‘Head of the Table’ trusted to carry the WWE as its face for a long period.

The Tribal Chief debuted in WWE as a member of the Shield group and after splitting with Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose (now Jon Moxley), he went on to be pushed as a babyface by Vince McMahon. Leati Joseph Anoai, alias Roman Reigns, was promptly rejected by the WWE Universe.

Roman built a new life with his cousins Jimmy and Jey Uso – The Usos – after his rebirth as a heel and his shtick as the head of the Bloodline.

Roman Reigns recently set a new WWE record.

At Payback in August 2020, ‘The Big Dog’ dethroned The Fiend in a triple-threat match that also included Braun Strowman as the Universal Champion. Roman defeated Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 38 to reclaim the WWE and Universal Titles.

Since then, Roman Reigns remained as a champion for almost a thousand days, making him the longest-reigning champion in WWE history since the start of WrestleMania in 1985.

WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan’s first reign as WWF Champion lasted 1,474 days, although only 1,041 of those days were part of the WrestleMania period, which Roman Reigns broke.
