This season, MLS side Inter Miami announced the signing of Spain fullback Jordi Alba, who will rejoin the former Barcelona star with his old teammates from the Catalan club as he joins Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets in Florida.
The marauding fullback, who rose to fame after a stellar performance in Spain’s Euro 2012 victory, chose to end his contract with Barcelona by mutual consent, despite having one year left on his deal. Alba joins the David Beckham-owned MLS team on a free transfer.
Since moving to the Catalan club from Valencia in 2012, the 34-year-old has had a trophy-laden career at the Blaugrana. Alba won 6 La Liga titles in the iconic colours of the Barcelona club, as well as 5 Copa Del Reys.
Alba also won the Supercopa de Espana 4 times and was a key player in Luis Enriques’ UEFA Champions League-winning Barcelona team in 2015.
Along with the Nations League title and the Euro championship he won with La Furia Roja at the international level, he also won a UEFA Super Cup and a FIFA Club World Cup winners medal.
The reunion of Messi, Busquets and Alba will undoubtedly bring joyful and nostalgic memories of a team that helped to revolutionize modern-day football. Beckham is attempting to persuade Messi’s former Barcelona teammates Andreas Iniesta and Luis Suarez to join him.
