Superman is going to fight a new villain known simply as the Chained, who has been compared to Doomsday, the villain who murdered him with his own hands. The Chained, on the other hand, isn’t just powerful, he’s Superman’s ideological opposite, coming to put the Man of Steel to the test. The Chained will make its debut in September’s Superman #6, from Joshua Williamson and Gleb Melnikov.
SDCC has revealed a lot of new information, including the identity of Superman’s new enemy. The Chained is a dangerous and strong enemy that even Lex Luthor feared. Lex built a jail specifically to hold the Chained and kept him there for years, but now that Lex Luthor is in prison and Superman runs the business SuperCorp, a rebrand of LexCorp, Clark has access to all of Lex’s secrets, including where the Chained is hiding. Naturally, Superman does not want to keep anyone imprisoned and will soon free the Chained, only to realise it was his biggest mistake ever.
What kind of threat does Chained pose?
With his unkempt nature and sickly frame, the Unchained may not appear to be a dangerous threat. Still, he must have something really dangerous if he’s been imprisoned for so long. Why else would Lex Luthor keep him imprisoned underground?
In an interaction with Screen Rant, writer Joshua Williamson revealed, “To me, I feel like they are a Doomsday-level threat to Superman, and it leads to a humongous fight in Metropolis.” He referred to the villain “as a really big deal for Clark.” He added, “Clark realizes what he has to do to beat this person will come at a pretty big cost…This fight is nuts. They really go at it.”
So, for those hoping for an epic fight between Superman and his new enemy, their upcoming battle will most certainly be thrilling.
