While “Riverdale” on The CW started as a teen drama murder mystery, its later seasons have been praised for adopting eclectic storylines. By Season 7, Archie Andrews and the gang had time-travelled, introduced a parallel world called Rivervale and had its lead characters get superpowers. To its credit, the show explores the more odd aspects of its comic book mythology. We have the perfect comic for “Riverdale” fans to read next as The CW says farewell to Archie and the gang.
The one-shot comic “Chilling Adventures Presents… Welcome to Riverdale” #1 follows Ginger Snapp’s debut in the famous town. Snapp is a Hilldale native who first appears in Bob Montana’s “Zip Comics” #35 in 1943. Her forthcoming trip to Riverdale, on the other hand, will take her in a world of toxic positivity with a horror twist that Archie Comics describes as “equal parts ‘Pleasantville’ and ‘The Stepford Wives.'”
In a chat with writer Amy Chase, he said to Looper, “In the wake of the juggernaut ‘Riverdale’ TV series, we felt inspired to try anything; to make it weird, find those unexpected twists and turns! The good folks at Archie Comics have really encouraged us to push the limits of these comics, as long as the core of the story stays fun and true to the characters. We wanted to keep that ‘That’s wild, let’s go for it!’ spirit alive here.”
With that fascinating comparison in mind, let’s take a glimpse (all pics are taken from looper) at the issue courtesy of Archie Comics.
Ginger arrives in Riverdale in the first unlettered preview page. She arrived as a postcard from Ginger’s friend Nancy Woods, who appears to be the reason of Ginger’s first arrival. Then Ginger runs into an elderly man sporting a cowboy hat.

In the second preview page, Ginger catches up with Nancy and famous Riverdale resident Veronica Lodge to hang out at Pop’s Chock’lit Shoppe – a popular hangout for “Riverdale” fans.

Ginger gets an old-school makeover on the third preview page. She puts on a new hoop-styled outfit that suits the era and fashions of her fellow friends. Things take a dark turn as Snapp appears to be overwhelmed by what she’s seeing off-panel and somebody grabs at the sides of her lips, hinting at the frightening plot of the book.

Ginger awakens and comes across Carla Teal on the last preview page. Of course, it’s reasonable to presume the two are talking about the strange events in Riverdale.
