Captain Marvel’s new adventure takes Carol Danvers on a big, sprawling mission with a new villain meant to give the hero all the fight she can handle.
Following Kelly Thompson’s incredible 50-issue stint writing the character, Danvers’ ongoing book is resetting at Issue #1. The new book is written by Alyssa Wong (who just wrote “Deadpool”) and Jan Bazaldua (“Winter Guard”), who are given the opportunity to put their own twist on Captain Marvel. The hero’s rebooted series has a bold costume designed by Jen Bartel and a mysterious new villain named the Omen, all while another new character, Yuna Yang, gets involved with the hero after stealing the cosmic weapons known as the Nega-Bands. The Omen will take notice of Carol and Yuna’s bond and the villain will make a play for the powerful cosmic artifacts herself.
So let’s take a look at “Captain Marvel” #1, courtesy of Marvel Comics, where Danvers’ new story starts out with immediate conflict.

Yuna Yang, who will be linked to Captain Marvel by the Nega-Bands, can be seen falling from the sky in one of the most dramatic pages as they use cosmic weapons as a last resort to escape death. The Nega-Bands have a long history in Marvel Comics, first appearing in “Captain Marvel” #16 by Archie Goodwin and Don Heck in 1968.
