Drew Barrymore to pause talk show following strike backlash

In response to public protest, Drew Barrymore stated on Sunday that she dropped plans to resume her daytime talk show while strikes in Hollywood continue. Picketers from the striking writers’ and actors’ unions protested against the planned return of “The Drew Barrymore Show” when taping resumed last week.

On Sunday the actress issued a statement on Instagram that reads: “I have listened to everyone, and I am making the decision to pause the show’s premiere until the strike is over.”

Barrymore also offered her “deepest apologies to anyone I have hurt.”

Barrymore posted a video on Instagram on Friday indicating she was going through with plans to resume her television talk show next week because so many jobs were at stake, but the clip was then removed.

Crew members on the television show have been out of work since the Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike, which halted production in May.

Other talk shows have stated their intentions to return to television. Host of “Real Time” Bill Maher said that he would be resuming his HBO show without without written pieces like a monologue and would focus on debates with guests.
