Liverpool’s FA Cup win against Arsenal last weekend resulted in a knee injury suffered by England defender Trent Alexander-Arnold, which will keep him out of play for several weeks.
Ahead of Wednesday’s League Cup semi-final first leg against Fulham, Reds assistant manager Pep Lijnders confirmed to the media about Alexander-Arnold’s injury.
Even though Alexander-Arnold managed to finish Sunday’s 2-0 third-round victory against the Gunners, he will be out for an extended period due to a knee tear.
The absence of the key England right-back is a big blow for Premier League leaders Liverpool, who are also competing for silverware in the Europa League and two domestic cups.
“First of all, some not-that-good news, Trent hyper-extended his knee during the last game,” Lijnders said.
He added, “So he has a little tear in the lateral ligament of his knee and he will need time to recover. He had a scan and he will be out for a few weeks, so let’s see after that. He will get some rest and then hopefully he can come back to where he was.”
Liverpool will take on Norwich or Bristol Rovers in the FA Cup 4th round on the weekend of January 27 before facing Chelsea in the Premier League on January 31.
