On Friday, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) turned over a man from Tripura who was reportedly kidnapped for ransom during his visit to Bangladesh last week to the Border Security Force (BSF).
The incident happened the day after the BSF company commander at the Belonia Border Out Post protested the Indian national’s disappearance during a flag meeting with his BGB counterpart. According to a statement released by the BSF, at 10:30 am on Friday, BGB turned over Indian national Challa Fru Mog to the BSF in front of immigration and law enforcement officers from Bangladesh and India.
According to a BSF spokesman, Challa Fru Mog lived in the South Tripura district’s Mogpara. His spouse, Swapna Mog, made an approach to the BSF company commander yesterday, alleging that her husband had entered Bangladesh on September 13 to see his relatives, using Belonia Land Custom Station to obtain a valid visa. He was kidnapped by a group of criminals from Bangladesh who were on his way back and wanted ₹1 lakh in ransom to release him.
The BSF quoted, “During the meeting, the BSF company commander protested and conveyed serious concern about the abduction of an Indian national in Bangladesh. The BGB company commander intimated that one miscreant involved in the case has been arrested by Bangladesh police and a massive search is on for apprehending the absconding miscreants.”
At 11:30 am, the Belonia Border Out Post (BOP) of the BSF, located in India, and the Majumdarhat BOP, located in Bangladesh, organised a flag meeting at the level of company commanders. The BSF will receive the Indian national, who was being held by Bangladesh Police in Chattogram, after the necessary formalities were completed, the BGB chief further promised.
