IPL 2021: Shikhar Dhawan overtakes Maxwell to lead Orange Cap leaderboard

Shikhar Dhawan surpassed recently registered Orange Cap holder Glen Maxwell. He completed 180 runs in 3 matches.

On Sunday Night, In the match between Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings, Shikhar Dhawan scored total 92 runs in 49 balls with13 fours and 2 sixes. He surpassed  Orange Cap holder Glen Maxwell as Shikhar Dhawan completed 180 runs in 3 matches.

A blistering fifty from Shikar Dhawan has taken him on top of Orange Cap leaderboard in IPL 2021. He completed his half-century off just 31 balls against Punjab Kings that included 8 boundaries. He had previously smashed an unbeaten 85 against CSK in his opening match in IPL 2021. He overtook Maxwell when he scored his 83rd run against PBKS.

After consistent performances since the inaugural edition of the IPL, India’s star opener Shikhar “Gabbar” Dhawan returned to his hometown to bolster the Delhi Capitals’ batting unit in 2019. Dhawan was brought in by Delhi Capitals in a trade-off with Sunrisers Hyderabad after the auctions.

Dhawan, a consistent run-getter in the competition, was crucial in SRH’s run to the final of IPL 2018. In 2019, Dhawan scored over 520 runs and then followed it up with 618 runs in IPL 2020, where he also became the first batsman in the tournament’s history to score two successive hundreds. IPL 2021 will present him with another opportunity to stamp his authority in his typically aggressive fashion against both pace and spin. With close to 5200 runs in the IPL, the swashbuckling left-hander will be crucial to Delhi Capitals’ fortunes.
