Oh, what a game Cricket can be, from becoming the hero by bowling Andre Russell behind his legs when he was looking like taking the world by storm to almost becoming the villain by conceding 30 runs in one over to Pat Cummins in just the next over Sam Curran seen it all at Wankhede on Wednesday night.
In what was a one-sided affair till the first 25 overs of the game as CSK powered through a huge total of 220 courtesy of a “Fafulous” 95 runs inning by Du Plessis and then a magnificent spell of 4-16 in three overs at that time with the new ball by Deepak Chahar to reduce KKR to 31-5 after 6 overs in a big chase of 221. Andre Russell though was in no mood to give up as he got going quickly hitting 6 massive sixes to reach his fifty in just 21 balls.
Sam Curran came in to bowl the 12th over when KKR were 112-5 and Russell and Karthik were in full flow and the chase suddenly looked within reach. On the second over Sam Curran turned the game by bowling Andre Russell behind his legs and the match seemed over for KKR.
He came back to bowl the 16th over when KKR needed 74 off 30 balls and with 7 wickets down the chase looked done. Sam Curran got hit for 4 sixes and a four to concede 30 runs off the over courtesy of brilliant hitting by Pat Cummins and some poor length bowled by him. KKR came back in the chase but eventually ran out of wickets to what could have been the most unexpected chases in the tournament history.
Sam Curran bowled the first ball for a couple and then got hit for three consecutive sixes by Pat Cummins, the fifth ball was also struck sweetly but landed just inches before the rope for a boundary, on the final ball Curran came round the wicket to cramp Cummins but got hit over mid-wicket for another massive six to wrap the over for 30 runs.
