Three in Sri Lankan contingent tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of the first ODI against Bangladesh

According to a source, three members of the Sri Lankan contingent tested positive for COVID-19 just hours before the first ODI against Bangladesh on Sunday. Sri Lanka will play three ODIs against hosts Bangladesh beginning on Friday. The second and third games are scheduled for May 25 and 28, respectively.

“Two Sri Lankan players and a coach have tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of the first ODI against Bangladesh in Dhaka,” ESPNcricinfo said. According to the website, the Bangladesh Cricket Board has ruled out the prospect of the match being called off.

The three-match One-Day International series is part of the World Cup Super League. The Sri Lanka men’s squad arrived in Dhaka on May 16, followed by a three-day quarantine ahead of the ODI series against Bangladesh.

According to some accounts, the bowling instructor in question is Chaminda Vaas, and the two affected players are Isuru Udana and Shiran Fernando. All three were isolated, and a second test was performed, with Udana and Vaas returning negative but Fernando’s returning positive.

This will be Bangladesh’s third one-day international series as part of the ICC’s World Cup qualification campaign. They are now sixth in the standings after defeating the West Indies 3-0 at home in January.
Sri Lanka and Bangladesh just completed a two-match Test series, which the former won. In the second Test, Sri Lanka defeated Bangladesh by 209 runs, whereas the first ended in a tie.
