After being crowned Player of the Tournament at the U20 Africa Cup of Nations with Ghana, Issahaku has plenty of possibilities. Upon stepping up from the U17 side he captained at the Cup of Nations in January, the youngster also had two goals nominated for Goal of the Tournament.
Issahaku is said to have travelled to Germany to join with Bayer Leverkusen, but the agreement fell through at the last minute. According to German media sources, the player’s entourage caused problems during the final talks.
Saddick Adams, an African football journalist, reports Liverpool has rushed rapidly to finalize a transaction. He believes Liverpool would pay Steadfast FC in Ghana a price estimated to be approximately £1.5 million.
Issahaku has agreed to terms with Liverpool on a five-year contract, becoming the club’s second summer signing following Ibrahima Konate. According to reports, the youngster will be loaned out next season owing to work permit concerns as he seeks consistent playing experience in Europe.
Issahaku stated last week on his Twitter account that he had inked a sponsorship contract with Nike. Basel and Borussia Dortmund were also interested in signing the player. Udinese, Nordsjaelland, and Red Bull Salzburg were also linked, though their interest was not seen as serious as that of the other teams.
In March, Issahaku was called up to the Ghana senior team for Cup of Nations qualifiers against South Africa and Sao Tome & Principe.
