Bruno Lage is set to join Wolves as the new head coach after the departure of Nuno Espirito Santo last month.
Contracts and work permits for Lage’s backroom staff are being finalized and the official announcement could be made in the next few days.
Lage coached Benfica after the sacking of Rui Vitoria in January 2019, but then he parted ways with the Portuguese club 11 months ago. In his maiden season at Benfica, he guided the club to the Primeira Liga NOS title but was sacked last summer. The 45-year old reportedly flew to London last week to hold talks with ‘Wolves’ chairman Jeff Shi and technical director Scott Sellars over joining the club.

Nuno left Molineux after four successful seasons with the Midlands club. During these seasons he guided them to promotion from the Championship in 2018. The Portuguese helped secure Europa League spots in his first two seasons in the top flight. But a 13th-placed finish and poor form in last season led to him leaving the club by “mutual agreement” at the end of the campaign.
Nuno has also held talks with Crystal Palace after the departure of Roy Hodgson and is also set to hold talks with Everton after Carlo Ancelotti left Goodison Park on Tuesday to return to Real Madrid for a second stint as manager.
