For quite a long time, WhatsApp has been rumoured to be working on multiple device support, disappearing messages and view once features. WhatsApp recently confirmed that the multi device support will be entering public beta in the coming months. It will allow its user to access their accounts from four linked devices. The new features “view once” and “disappearing mode” were officially disclosed. The reports broke out in an interview between WABetaInfo, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and WhatsApp head Will Cathcart.
Though WhatsApp did not confirm the time the features are to be launched, Cathcart informed that the multi-device support will be entering public beta “in the next month or two.” Cathcart did not commit about reports that suggests WhatsApp is working on an iPad app. He further added that multi device support will make WhatsApp on iPad a possibility.
The new features “view once” will allow its users to send contents that disappears after it has been viewed. Zuckerberg confirmed that the service is also expanding its disappearing messages features which currently allows messages to be deleted after a set period of time. In the coming days, a new “disappearing mode” will let you turn on disappearing messages across all chat threads.
Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg assured that the multi device support will not compromise the end to end encryption that WhatsApp offers for messages sent between individuals. “It will still be end-to-end encrypted.” “It’s been a big technical challenge to get all your messages and content to sync properly across devices even when your phone battery dies, but we have solved this and we are looking forward to get it out soon!”
WABetaInfo reported that WhatsApp is also working on a new password protected encrypted chat backups feature which would allow the users to transfer their chat history between iOS and Android devices. Earlier WABetaInfo explored numerous features before their official release that included adding contacts via QR codes and WhatsApp’s disappearing message features.
